Peace. Sort of.
For nearly a century, the Land of Oz had lived in peace.
Well... sort of.
Witches were getting houses dropped on them, flying monkeys were terrorizing neighborhoods, and a little girl from Kansas had been walking around clicking her heels like she owned the place.
A second Dorothy
But everything changed the night a second Dorothy showed up.
And this Dorothy wasn't from Kansas.
She was from Harlem.
The storm
A mysterious storm ripped through the space between two different versions of Oz, merging the magical countryside of 1939 with the funky, electrifying streets of 1978.
The Yellow Brick Road cracked down the middle.
On one side stood the Emerald City. On the other stood a metropolis of neon lights, skyscrapers, and enough funk to make the Wicked Witch breakdance.
The announcement
Every radio, television, crystal ball, and enchanted toaster across both universes carried the message.
Attention, citizens of Oz! There can only be one Dorothy!
Words are exchanged
The two Dorothys locked eyes.
- Kansas Dorothy“Well, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore.”
- Harlem Dorothy“Girl, ain't nobody worried about Kansas!”
- Kansas Dorothy“Those aren't ruby slippers.”
- Harlem Dorothy“And that ain't a real hairstyle, but here we are.”
- A munchkin, somewhere“Oh, she didn't!”
The crews
The Scarecrows immediately started arguing over who had the bigger brain. The Tin Men began comparing emotional damage. And the Cowardly Lions? They were already talking trash from behind their Dorothys.
- Lion, The Wiz“We want all the smoke!”
- Cowardly Lion“Put 'em up! Put 'em up!”
The Wizards weigh in
The Wizard of Oz appeared behind a curtain, demanding respect. The Wiz rolled up with a full production crew, flashing lights, dancers, and a soundtrack.
- The Wiz“Man, you still hiding behind curtains? We got special effects over here!”
- The Wizard of Oz“It's called mystery!”
A magical turf war
The argument spread across both worlds. Munchkins versus Winkies. Flying monkeys versus subway rats. Ruby slippers versus silver heels. Country roads versus city streets.
Who really ran Oz?
One legendary showdown
To prevent an all-out war, the Good Witches called an emergency meeting. Their solution: one legendary showdown.
No magic wands. No flying monkeys. No clicking heels to escape. Just two Dorothys, face to face, with their entire worlds watching.
The Yellow Brick Road would become the battleground. The Scarecrows would serve as cornermen. The Tin Men would ring the bell. And the Lions would provide security. Which concerned everybody.
Showdown night
Millions gathered from both universes. The skies turned gold. The Emerald City shook. The Yellow Brick Road split open beneath their feet.
- Dorothy from Kansas“There's no place like home.”
- Dorothy from Harlem“Baby, where I'm from... we don't run home. We handle business.”
The question
The Tin Men raised the bell. The Scarecrows leaned forward. The Lions began roaring. Toto started barking like he'd put his entire life savings on Kansas. And just as the first punch was about to fly...
Wait! Before y'all fight... which movie was actually better?
Let the people decide
Both Dorothys froze. Slowly, they turned toward the crowd. For the first time, they agreed on something.
That's a question for the people.
The Battle for the Yellow Brick Road
Intense, a little ridiculous, and entirely the fault of one storm. Every chapter brings its own scene.
Somewhere over the rainbow... somebody's about to catch these hands.
