The Royal Battle for Oz, a playable Battle for Oz chess game
Playable now. 3D pieces are temporary models.
The Royal Battle for Oz takes the feud to the chessboard. Team The Wiz (1978) lines up on the left, Team Oz (1939) on the right, the magical rift runs down the middle, and Toto watches from his own little stand. Every chess rule is real: castling, en passant, promotion, check, checkmate, stalemate and the draws. The computer opponent runs in your browser, from a Munchkin who is still learning the steps to the Wizard Supreme.
What is temporary: every 3D piece is a procedural model built in code from the concept character sheets, not finished character art. The game says so on screen and lists which characters still need a sheet. Phones and lighter machines open on a clear 2D board, and anyone can switch boards at any time.
Private prototype. Rights to the films, characters and likenesses have not been reviewed. In the frame, hold Ctrl and scroll to zoom the 3D board, so the page still scrolls normally. The computer opponent is Stockfish (GNU GPL v3); its licence ships with the game.
